Self Guided Walk

The Maroochy Wetlands Sanctuary is a great place to view the plants and animals of South-east Queensland up close. The wetlands is rich in biodiversity and contains dry eucalypt forests, rainforest, melaleuca forest, casuarina woodland, salt marsh and mangroves. This vegetation provides a valuable habitat to close to 200 species of birds, as well as crabs, butterflies, reptiles, fish and other wildlife species that frequent the wetlands.

To learn more about the plants and animals that call the wetlands their home please download the Self Guided Walk brochure and take a stroll along the boardwalk. The boardwalk begins near the car park and meanders through different vegetation communities until it reaches the Maroochy River. The boardwalk length is roughly 1 km and it is accessible to wheelchairs. Look carefully for small, 5 cm square, orange site numbers which are attached to the boardwalk at designated intervals.
