The final outing for the year was to be to Ewan Maddock Dam, South West Section. I have cancelled this outing
Parking is at the end of Gympie Street North, Landsborough. The area has a good mix of habitat. The walking tracks are mostly level, suitable for a wheelie walker. The nearest toilets are at the playground / picnic area at the northern Steve Irwin Road exit to Landsborough.
Having said all this it is my opinion that with current weather conditions a walk would be inappropriate. My Risk Assessment confirms my concerns.
I walked the area earlier in the week, there is plenty of shade but it was uncomfortable in the heat.
Ewan Maddock Dam has reduced water levels, the surrounding wetland areas are all but completely dry.
I saw few birds.
This area, I believe, will be closed for upgrade works at the beginning of 2020. The signs are up and some preliminary work has been started.
